Which French films will dominate awards season? Like every year, the Academy of Lights opens the ball of predictions by revealing its list of nominees.
While waiting to know those of the Césars (unveiled at the end of January 2024), the Académie des Lumières, made up of journalists from the foreign press (correspondents of the international press from 36 countries), gives a first overview of the most noted French films and appreciated of the year.
With six nominations, Anatomy of a Fall by Justine Triet is ahead of The Goldman Trial by Cédric Kahn and The Animal Kingdom by Thomas Cailley (five nominations each).
These three feature films will be in the running for the Lumière for best film with Last Summer by Catherine Breillat (four nominations) and Goutte d’or by Clément Cogitore (three nominations). Four nominations also for Disco Boy by Giacomo Abbruzzese and three for Le Rapissement by Iris Kaltenbäck.
On Monday January 22, 2024, the Académie des Lumières will award 13 prizes (film, direction, screenplay, actress, actor, female revelation, male revelation, first film, animation, documentary, international co-production, image and music). The winners will receive a Lumière, a trophy created by the Monnaie de Paris, signed Joaquín Jiménez.
