This movie is for fans of “Lord of the Rings” and “Rings of Power” but many don’t even know it exists: it’s time to fix it!
While JRR Tolkien fans are eagerly awaiting the Rings of Power season 2, which takes place before the famous Lord of the Rings movies, there is another related movie. Tolkien gone unnoticed and yet worth the detour – as our colleagues from AdoroCinema remind us.
Fantasy fans have probably read every book by Tolkienseen and reviewed the trilogy of Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson, as well as that of The Hobbit, and of course, the new series from Amazon Prime Video, Rings of Power. And even those who haven’t devoured the books or binge-watched the movies or the series have at least heard of it. But who was this Tolkien who gave us the greatest and best-known fantasy sagas of our time?
The film soberly baptized Tolkien will answer your questions. Indeed, you can find out more about the author himself in this 2019 biopic dedicated to the legendary writer, directed by Dome Karukoski and starring Nicholas Hoult in the lead role.
Is it that Tolkien, is the film worth watching? Rated 3.7 out of 5 by Allociné viewers, it would seem that a detour is recommended – especially for hardcore fans of the Lord of the Ringsa real metaphor for the life of the author during the First World War.

In the movie, Tolkien is a simple man from the beginning of the 20th century: he studies at university, falls in love (with his future wife Edith, played by Lily Collins) and of course he also has to go to war – there, the trauma has only just begun. This war that the director Dome Karukoski portrayed as the inspiration of Tolkien especially for Mordor.

The feature film focuses mainly on the romance between the latter and Edith and puts more emphasis on the shyness and enthusiasm of Tolkien for language. So if you’re also interested in the man behind the work and love historical biopics, this is the movie for you.
Released in theaters on June 19, 2019 in France, the feature film only attracted 121,725 French viewers: so now is the time to find out if you haven’t already.
