With its announcement in One More Thing of the Nintendo Direct in February, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was able to delight the fans who had been waiting for it for more than four years. Announced as a game that will link the future of worlds from the two previous opuses (Xenoblade Chronicles X not being part of the lot), it will immerse us in the world ofAionios. A world in which you find two nations, Keves and Agnus.
Warning, this article can spoil you on certain elements.
In this opus, players will be able to follow the story alongside certain members from both factions and we invite you to come back to each of them, but first of all, here is the distribution of the protagonists according to their faction.
- Characters from Keves: Noah, Eunie, Lanz
- Characters from Agnus: Mio, Taion, Sena
Now let’s see a bit more about each of them starting with Noah.
Noah
This is the first character we see in the trailer. This one plays the flute but he is also able to fight. During the battles, he carries his weapon which is none other thana red colored sword. The latter also has some visual similarities with Monado that Shulk uses in the first opus. To return to our hero, Noah is above all a soldier of Keves but also a ferryman of souls who is there to help the souls of the dead on the battlefield. During his journey, he will cross paths with Mio who is the next protagonist we are going to talk about.

Mio
Meet Mio, the heroine from the people of Agnus who, like Noah, is a ferryman of souls. We see them together in the trailer playing the flute or fighting side by side. Unlike the latter, she does not use swords but rather chakrams. For those who have played Xenoblade Chronicles 2, it is possible to draw a parallel with Nia on this fact, it remains to be seen if the latter will also be a healer or a seasoned fighter who will be there to assign quick blows to her enemies. Since her description indicates that she dodges attacks thanks to her speedshe could very well be Morag’s bent and be an agile tank based on dodging even if the tank role seems rather reserved for Lanz which we will talk about now.

Lanz
Lanz is known as a character with a lot of strength. It is moreover this which allows him to handle his big sword that can serve as shield. Its role should therefore be to be the tank like Reyn or Tora. Which should coincide with the fact that he defends Noah in the trailer by protecting him with his sword. Besides this detail, he is Noah’s childhood friend and is part of Keves’ army.

Sena
Let’s find another soldier of Agnus named Sena. Although she has a rather small stature and is shy, she does not remain less an ally of immense strength. She will not hesitate to use her hammer to strike down her enemies like she does with Lanz in the trailer. Sena also has a favorite hobby which is strength training. Enough to allow him to maintain his strength on a daily basis. In terms of her role, we can expect to see her more as a DPS and not a tank even if in the second opus, the hammers were rather for the tanks.

Eunie
The third member of Keves’ trio and Lanz and Noah’s childhood friend. She will use her weapon which is a kind of cannon bearing the name “Gunrod” in English. Although we don’t know more than that about her, what we do know is that she will be there for heal allies a bit like Sharla in the first game. She still has a little detail of her own, it’s the pair of wings on her head.

And here is the latest member of the Agnus trio, Taion. A character using a rather particular weapon similar to origami. From what we know about him, he is insightful and possesses a high tactical intelligence however, at times he can be overly cautious and when he gets impatient, he can cloud his mind. His role within your group will be to bring his support. We can surely see him as the healer of the group. We will have to wait to find out more to know if its support role is indeed linked to healing or if it is more tactical support oriented boost or debuffs.

There you go, we saw the six protagonists and what we can remember is that it seems that each faction has similar roles. We can represent them this way although we have some doubts about some of them.

Of course, we were able to see other characters in the trailer who seem to have a certain importance and of which we have no information yet, however there are rumors about one of them. Indeed, during the trailer, we see a masked character and the latter could be Nia from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. This is not confirmed by Monolith Soft or any reliable source but it might delight some fans if it was indeed the case. What makes this a possibility is the outfit which seems to be similar to that of Nia in her Blade form although they are different but also the mask which can completely be used to hide the hairstyle of the latter .
