60% of households affected by inflation
In any case, this is what a study published by the French Observatory of Economic Conjunctures (OFCE) confirms on Thursday March 17, according to which the former are subject to inflation of 3.8% when the latter are facing an overall increase in costs of 3.4%. The study reveals that in Paris, inflation does not exceed 3%.
According to a specialist contacted by our colleagues, this discrepancy is explained in particular by the use of the car and related fuel expenses, which are more common in rural areas. For students, the inflation rate is 2.5%when it is 3.3% for assets and 3.6% for withdrawals. The OFCE specifies that 60% of households are affected by inflation.
The poorest households less impacted by the rise in prices
Among them, the poorest households would be less affected by the increase in prices. A finding due to the aid schemes put in place for them by the government, such as the strengthening of the energy check or the inflation allowance for 100 euros perceived by 38million people earning less than 2000euros net per month. The authors of the study qualify by specifying that their work is based on the year 2021, a period not marked by the war in Ukraine.

However, this event is hampering the food sector by impacting international trade. And, as one of the authors points out, the poorest social categories are the most dependent on the increase in food and they are paying the price for it today. Finally, households situated around the median income are those whose purchasing power is the most weakened by the economic situation.
