Ankorstore only took two years to become a “unicorn”. The young French company, which connects local traders with creators, is now worth more than a billion dollars.

A few days after PayFit, France now has a 24e unicorn, with the Ankorstore virtual marketplace. The company, which raised funds of 250 million euros, is now valued at 1.75 billion euros. Ankorstore allows small traders to place orders of a minimum amount of 100 euros from 15,000 suppliers, with free delivery for any order over 300 euros.

A meteoric rise

Ankorstore, created in September 2019 by Pierre-Louis Lacoste, Nicolas d’Audiffret, Nicolas Cohen and Mathieu Alengrin, is the very symbol of a start-up experiencing rapid growth. It already has 200,000 independent traders as customers.

Ankorstore’s business model is based on the transaction between merchants and brands. The marketplace takes a 20% commission on the first orders between merchants and brands, which drops to 10% if the merchant orders again from the same supplier. The start-up indicates that this commission covers logistics and financing costs.

A year ago, Ankorstore only had about twenty employees. Today, it employs 400. Within a year, according to the co-founder and co-CEO of the company, Nicolas Cohen, it should have between 1,000 and 1,500. The marketplace has already taken a step forward. this direction by opening offices in Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom.
