Who is Serge Magdeleine, the new boss of LCL?

The current general director of Crédit Agricole Alpes Provence Serge Magdeleine will take the helm of the LCL bank from January 1, the parent company Crédit Agricole SA announced in a press release on Tuesday.

Aged 51, he will replace Michel Mathieu, who arrived in 2016 and who will assert his retirement rights, specifies the bank.

His arrival takes place in a tense context at LCL, the unions having warned in the spring about working conditions, a few weeks after a strike movement to obtain better salaries and better working conditions.

Elected staff members were particularly concerned about a record rate of resignations, while management criticized figures that were completely taken out of context.

Serge Magdeleine is a graduate of the Ecole des Ponts and holds an MBA from the college of engineers. After starting his career in consulting at Mercer Oliver Wyman from 1996 to 1999 and then founding and chairing Empruntis.com, he joined Crdit Agricole SA in 2001, first as head of online banking. He will hold various positions, before taking the helm of the Caisse régional Alpes Provence in 2020.

LCL has around 6 million individual customers, 390,000 professional customers and 30,500 businesses and institutions, specifies Crdit Agricole SA.
