Who Wants To Be A Millionaire ?: Because of Corona, RTL changes the game rules of the quiz show

In March there was "Who wants to be a millionaire?" to see the audience in the studio because the shows were recorded before the Corona crisis. When Günther Jauch's (63) well-known quiz show is running on Monday (8:15 p.m., RTL), it will be different and this will also bring about further changes.

The Cologne TV studio, in which the successful format has been moderated by Jauch for 20 years, offers space for 215 viewers. So far, these have also been an important part of the program, as they helped the candidates to get started with the "public joker".

New wild cards

The "public joker" will be replaced for the new episodes. Instead of asking the full studio for advice, if in doubt, candidates can count on the expertise of former winners: three former "WWM" winners now form the audience and can help. The "millionaire joker" is only available as a "fourth joker" in the risk variant.

Accompanying person may be interviewed

Second, there is the so-called "escort joker": the candidate can choose an escort as an additional joker and consult with them. The "companion joker" is valid instead of the additional joker. The 50:50 joker and the telephone joker remain as usual.

Fewer candidates

The number of candidates in the selection round is also reduced. Instead of eight, RTL is limited to six people who can drive to the studio and back on the day of recording. This is to avoid hotel nights. In addition, the candidate and production team should remain largely separate from one another during the recording.
