Günther Jauch (64) invites you to the 42nd “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” – Celebrity Special. The first star-studded special of the quiz show for a good cause took place in 2000. On this Whit Monday, May 24th, the first “Gamer Special” with prominent candidates will follow (8:15 pm on RTL or via TVNow), which can win two million euros. To do this, they have to answer the first nine of the 15 questions without using a joker. The four stars are no unknown “WWM” faces.
Oliver Pocher
In May 2008, comedian Oliver Pocher (43) earned the million. The last question: “The Nagel-Schreckenberg model provides an explanation for the development of …? A: sandy deserts, B: traffic jams, C: flu waves or D: stock market crashes”. Pocher correctly relied on “traffic jams”. The comedian was the first celebrity candidate to correctly answer the million dollar question.
Thomas Gottschalk
In the same year, Thomas Gottschalk (71) also cheered. With the help of Marcel Reich-Ranicki (1920-2013) as a telephone joker, in November he answered the million-dollar question “What was the name of Franz Kafka’s last partner, whom he met in 1923, a year before his death?” with “Dora Diamant” and was right. Gottschalk was previously on the show. In 2001 he went home with 500,000 Deutschmarks.
Barbara Schöneberger
The first and so far only female “WWM” celebrity millionaire is Barbara Schöneberger (47). With the help of her telephone joker Pankraz von Freyberg (76), the director of the Festival European Weeks Passau, she typed in 2011 the final question “What is the name of the boy who Wilhelm Tell shoots the legendary apple from the head?” on “Walter”. In 2003 she earned 64,000 euros, a World Cup special in 2006 ended up with 125,000 euros.

However, Anke Engelke (55) holds the record of celebrity “WWM” participations. As a candidate for the 40th Special, she was featured in the program seven times, previously in 2006 (500,000 euros), 2007 (500,000 euros), 2009 (125,000 euros), 2012 (125,000 euros), 2015 (500,000 euros) and 2017 (500,000 euros ). At her last appearance in 2020, she suffered a bitter defeat: On the 125,000-euro question, she fell back to 500 euros. “I would just have to come back then,” she explained to Günther Jauch after the first shock. Will it finally work out with the million dollar win on her eighth participation?
