If the NFT still not popular with the general public, some brands are however determined to try the experiment. This will be the case with Nike, which is preparing its own service dedicated to blockchain.

And it won’t just be about beautiful, extremely expensive virtual shoes!

A risky bet

Nike is one of the clothing designers who have chosen to invest heavily in the NFT market. Last December, the American firm already acquired RTFKT, a start-up specializing in the creation and sale of digital objects. Today, the equipment supplier of many sports teams announces the launch of its blockchain-based platform.

Named .Swoosh, this service will allow members to purchase and even create Nike-branded jerseys, shoes and other gear. Other more tangible benefits such as preview access to very real products and special events will be reserved for platform users. The company intends to federate a real community around this initiative.

A launch in several stages

First of all, you should know that .Swoosh will arrive in the form of a beta this Friday, November 18, 2022. An access code will be required to be able to use the service. The features will appear gradually in December. Once these crucial first steps have been successfully completed, Nike will roll out its first virtual collection in early 2023. Users will then be able to shell out real money and exchange items.

Finally, the brand will launch a kind of community challenge. Winners of this contest will have the opportunity to co-create virtual items with Nike. In addition, the company explains that it wants to ensure that its NFTs can be used in other forms of entertainment such as video games. In short, ambition is in order… It remains to be seen whether the public will be receptive.
