Whole country affected – Fixed a problem with emergency calls in Styria

Due to a technical problem, some of the emergency calls in Styria failed on Wednesday. In the afternoon, only the rescue call 144 in Graz and the surrounding area was affected, then there were disruptions throughout Styria, including the police emergency call 133.

“The external technical defect” is not within the sphere of influence of the Red Cross, the Styrian regional association announced late Wednesday afternoon. Initially only the provincial capital of Graz and the Graz-Surroundings district were affected, but as a result there were disruptions throughout the state. According to the Red Cross, however, the problem could be circumvented. If the emergency number 144 cannot be reached, please put the Graz area code in front. The emergency call was made in all regions via 0316/144. Immediately after that, the emergency call again had no area code.Shortly after 9:30 p.m., the Red Cross reported that the fault had been lifted. The rescue emergency number is now available again at 144. The police emergency number can now be reached again at 133. Similar problems arose at the executive on Wednesday. “The emergency calls were always available,” said network operator A1. “Only A1 mobile phones with 2G and 3G networks could only reach them with 0316 as the area code. Mobile phones from other providers and A1 customers with 4G or 5G and landline callers had no problems,” said A1 spokesman Jochen Ohnewas-Schützenauer.
