Why Air France-KLM plans to take off again this summer


DECRYPTION – The carrier is still seeking to strengthen its equity to the tune of 4 billion euros.

A wind of optimism is once again blowing over air transport. The outlook for the summer, the season when companies traditionally make a lot of money, is finally favourable. “We expect to have an occupancy rate of our aircraft this summer quite close to that of 2019, i.e. more than 85%, explain to Figaro Ben Smith, CEO of Air France-KLM. On the North Atlantic (routes to the United States, Canada and Mexico), we will have a higher offer than in 2019.”

Overall, the group will offer in the third quarter 85% to 90% of the capacities of three years ago. North America, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean, Europe… On these destinations, sales are very well oriented for the Franco-Dutch group. And the price increases made because of the rising cost of kerosene do not deter customers from buying tickets. Lufthansa is on the same wavelength: last week the group sold more tickets than in 2019…
