Our feet also need our full attention. It is thanks to them that we can walk, run or even dance. Yet they are often overlooked. Good foot hygiene is important to keep them healthy and soft. Between cleansing and hydration, there is an essential step not to be overlooked: exfoliation. Thanks to the exfoliation, we remove dead skin from the surface of the epidermis of our feet. This prevents the formation of often stubborn calluses, and makes the skin soft and comfortable. If there are scrubs already ready for our feet, it is also possible to concoct a homemade recipe to exfoliate our dear feet. The good news ? Many ingredients are already in our kitchen and bathroom. Here are all our tips for making a scrub that will make your feet soft.

Why exfoliate your feet?

As with the face, body or hands, exfoliation of the feet is important and has many benefits. A scrub removes dead skin thus, the skin is softer, more beautiful and above all healthier.

Exfoliation helps prevent various problems like calluses or infections caused by blocked pores. Eh yes ! Even on the feet, clogged pores can cause inconvenience, whether it is diseases such as psoriasis or the appearance of fungi.

When the skin regenerates, it creates new cells. These replace the old ones called dead skin. If they normally come off on their own, they can also accumulate from a lack of hydration caused by frequently wearing closed shoes or from the friction of walking. The feet then become dry and cracked. Calluses and skin diseases such as psoriasis appear. It is therefore useful to remove dead skin by exfoliating your feet. once or twice a week before hydrating them well.

In addition, the scrub also involves a foot massage, which is particularly welcome for loosen after they have carried our body weight all day. The exfoliation of your feet is not only a treatment but also a real moment of well-being.

How to exfoliate your feet?

There are several ways to exfoliate your feet, whether by using a pumice stone or by concocting a tailor-made exfoliating treatment.

Using a pumice stone under your feet

Pumice stone (Recycled glass pumice stone, € 3.50, Avril) is calluses’ worst enemy! It allows a complete exfoliation of the feet. It is the assurance of very soft and healthy skin. Just rub your clean, damp feet after a shower with the pumice stone. Circular movements are made, especially on areas where the skin is harder. Your feet will be much smoother in just a few minutes. This exfoliation can be followed by another homemade scrub for even more softness.

Make an Epsom salt scrub

Epsom salt (Epsom salt, € 2.90, Aroma-Zone) has anti-inflammatory and relaxing properties. In addition to exfoliating the feet, it relaxes them. Before the scrub, we soak our feet for about fifteen minutes in lukewarm water in which we mix 1/2 cup of Epsom salt and a few drops of lemon essential oil (Organic lemon essential oil, € 2.10, Voshuiles.com) antiseptic, purifying and refreshing, peppermint (Organic peppermint essential oil, € 5.10, My Cosmetik available on Monoprix) refrigerant and decongestant, lavender (True lavender essential oil, € 9.55, Pranarom available on health discount) calming and purifying or tea tree (Organic tea tree essential oil, € 4.65, Ladrôme available on health discount) anti-inflammatory and stimulating … It will then be easier to eliminate dead skin.

To make an Epsom salt scrub for your feet, nothing could be simpler! All it takes is a handful of Epsom salt and a tablespoon of vegetable oil (Pure avocado oil, € 8.90, Mira). We recommend in particular olive oil, avocado, sweet almond or argan. Epsom salt can be replaced with pink Himalayan salt (Himalayan pink salt, € 7.90, Waam Cosmetics), detoxifying and regenerating.

We rub gently on damp skin to exfoliate it by massaging the feet which will relax them in a few minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water and say goodbye to dead skin and calluses. Your feet will never have been so soft!

Make an oatmeal scrub

Epsom salt can easily be replaced with oats. If we know this cereal especially for our breakfast recipes, it is also excellent for the skin. Oats act like a mild soap, gently exfoliates and soothes the epidermis thanks to its milky texture. It regenerates the skin and leaves it perfectly smooth and hydrated.

To do this, simply mix a handful of oatmeal in a floral water such as rose water (Organic Damask Rose hydrosol, € 8.90, Typology), milk or just mineral water. We then create a paste that we apply on his feet. Leave on for a few minutes then massage in circular motions before rinsing with lukewarm water. The skin on your feet will be much smoother!

Make a sugar scrub

No Epsom salt or oatmeal on hand? You can also use sugar to scrub your feet.

The recipe is simple! We mix a little sugar with a vegetable oil, possibly adding a few drops of essential oil of lemon, peppermint, lavender or tea tree. Apply the paste to her feet and massage for about five minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water and your dear little feet will be relaxed and soft.

Make a baking soda scrub

Baking soda is widely used in homemade beauty recipes, especially for exfoliating the skin. It is an excellent product for a foot scrub.

After soaking your feet, mix 4 tablespoons of baking soda (Baking Soda, € 9.09, Vozydeo available on Amazon) to his shower gel by adding a few drops of essential oil of his choice. Apply the grainy paste and rub, massaging your feet for a few minutes to remove dead skin. All you have to do is rinse with lukewarm water.

Be careful though, baking soda can be irritating and drying to the skin. If you have sensitive skin, then it is better to choose another recipe!

After a foot scrub, as after any scrub, it is important not to skip the hydration step. Apply a special cream, vegetable oil or shea butter (Organic shea butter, € 9.50, Fleurance nature) and massage your feet well for a few minutes. They can then be covered with socks to help the cream or treatment better penetrate the skin.
