Apple has apparently revised its plans for the development of the next versions of its operating systems. iOS 18, macOS 15 and watchOS 11 would be on pause, time for the manufacturer to focus on fixing bugs.

Apple wants to do things right

According to information from Mark Gurman, journalist at Bloomberg, Apple has reportedly finalized a first version of its next systems planned for next year. But it was during the crucial code retesting stage that the manufacturer realized the technical instability of the work accomplished.

In view of this observation, Apple has decided to pause the development of any new functionality in order to focus on bug correction, but also the performance of these future versions.

With thousands of Apple employees working across a range of operating systems and devices – which need to work together seamlessly – it’s easy for bugs to intrude. “It’s a problem when 10,000 people code at the same time and crash the operating system,” said a person familiar with the matter.

This is not the first time that Apple has made this type of decision: in 2018, the manufacturer also pressed the pause button during the development of iOS 12 in order to concentrate on fixing bugs, thereby delaying working on new features.

In this case, Apple would have interrupted development for a short week and should resume its cruising speed this week. The decision is not expected to delay the release of these versions to the general public, which will be previewed to developers in early summer 2024.
