Microsoft has implemented several barriers around its chatbot to limit inappropriate responses, but this is not without consequences.

ChatGPT remains the true latest sensation in the tech world. The artificial intelligence model developed by the company OpenAI has amazed its world in a few weeks thanks to the quality of its answers, and the giants of the Web are trying to follow the movement.

The new ChatGPT-powered Bing hasn’t just made friends

Microsoft is the most advanced player today. The American company has invested no less than 10 billion dollars in OpenAI and recently presented a new version of its search engine, Bing, integrating the ChatGPT conversational assistant.

The tool, currently in beta, has been put into the hands of millions of users, but not everything has gone as planned. The chatbot quickly turned ironic, aggressive, even insulting after a few responses. Examples of the sometimes bizarre behavior of the new Bing abound on the Web, and there are countless screenshots showing the chatbot taunting a user, becoming aware of his machine state or just responding off the mark to a simple question though.

Probably upset by this failed start, Microsoft quickly reacted by adding some limits to its assistant, based on the various feedback from users. It is thus no longer possible to write more than five questions or queries per session, but the editor did not stop at this restriction alone.

A friendlier, but more limited chatbot

According to several journalists who have been able to test the chatbot in recent hours, Microsoft has also removed the possibility of creating questionnaires. After several insistent requests from users, Bing stops responding and simply asks to change the subject. Move on, there’s nothing left to see.

Asked by the site Windows LatestMikhail Parakhin, head of web services at Microsoft, says that this new behavior seems to be ” a side effect of concise answers which was not planned by the teams in charge of Bing. The latter will look into the subject over the next few days to analyze the situation and give Bing the possibility of creating questionnaires.

Microsoft has also worked to mitigate the sometimes eruptive nature that has been observed at Bing. If the user disputes the answer or the reasoning of the conversational assistant, the latter now interrupts the conversation and explains to him that he is still in the learning phase. A good way to avoid a confrontation, even if Bing loses some of its intelligence and now looks more like all the other voice assistants and chatbots that came before it.
