why can’t players subscribe anymore?

Prepaid PS Plus membership cards no longer work. Is this a bug or a voluntary limitation from Sony when approaching the premium offer?

The new PS Plus offers will be online on June 22 with us, but in the meantime some are trying to extend their subscription with prepaid cards. Except that here, a malfunction prevents players from subscribing.

Unable to subscribe to PlayStation Plus

On the ResetERA forums, many players are complaining that they cannot validate their PS Plus prepaid cards, regardless of the subscription duration. The Internet user below encounters, for example, the problem with the 3-month offer, others with the 12-month offer…

The prepaid card could not be used. Please try again later.

There is, however, one constant: only current PS Plus subscribers are affected. If you are not yet, you can subscribe to the service but only once. In other words, it is impossible to extend the subscription beyond.

A temporary bug according to Sony

The list of “free” games of May 2022

Our colleagues from Pushsquare contacted Sony Interactive Entertainment support and obviously, PS Plus prepaid cards are temporarily disabled :

I checked your code as well as your account and know that from now on, there is a temporarily disabled feature for PS Plus/PS Now subscriptions that does not allow stacking of either subscription on active subscriptions. This is only temporary and as soon as we have more information we will let our players know.

Some are convinced that this deactivation was put in place because of an offer that was too advantageous for subscribers. We explain to you. Before, if a player had 5 years of PS Plus in stock, he could, for example, subscribe to PS Now for one month and automatically get 5 years of PS Plus Premium. The combination of the two subscriptions made this manipulation possible, with obviously a big shortfall for Sony.

Of course, it can also be a mic-mac due to the transition between the different offers. Other than the support message above, Sony Interactive Entertainment has not communicated more clearly about the issue.
