The third episode of the Star Wars series dedicated to the Jedi has just been released. During this one, Huyang, the robot that accompanies Ahsoka, tells her that she comes from a line of atypical Jedi. Here’s what that means.

Series Ahsokawhich follows the famous Jedi, has just given us its 3rd episode, whose story is still as gripping as the first two. Warning: there are slight spoilers on the very beginning of episode 3 in the next few sentences.

The episode begins with her and Sabine Wren, her apprentice, on his ship — along with Huyang, the robot who trained the Jedi Knights. After a session in which Ahsoka tries to teach Sabine to sense the Force, the Jedi has a discussion with the robot. Huyang tells her as she comes ” from a long line of unconventional Jedi “.

The sentence may seem innocuous, but it refers to a whole part of Ahsoka’s youth, explored in animated Star Wars series like The Clone Wars, Tales of the Jedior Rebels. If you haven’t seen these series, this is what Huyang means. There are no spoilers for the series. Ahsoka herself is not a classic Jedi

First of all, we must begin by clarifying that Ahsoka is, herself, no ordinary Jedi. Besides the fact that she has two lightsabers of a unique color, she has undergone an atypical training.

Indeed, she began her apprenticeship as a Padawan during the Clone Wars, a landmark episode in the history of the galaxy, which takes place between the end of film II, Attack of the Clonesand episode III, Revenge of the Sith. During this war, the Jedi faced separatist forces, and it was at this time that Ahsoka cut her teeth, and became the apprentice of a certain… Anakin Skywalker.

At first, the relationship between the master and the Padawan was not the best. Anakin didn’t want to have an apprentice, while Ashoka was a strong head, eager to prove himself. Over time, however, the two grew closer, and eventually had a very strong relationship. Anakin taught her many techniques, which made her an excellent Jedi.

However, she never finishes her training. After being wrongly accused of a murder without having been defended by the Jedi Order, to whom she had dedicated her life, she decided to leave, without having completely completed her apprenticeship. She is therefore, technically, not completely Jedi, having never finished her training – an atypical warrior.

Trained by singular Jedi

Finally, it is above all Anakin Skywalker, his master, who comes to mind when we talk about ” Unconventional Jedi “. Indeed, Anakin was first of all a Jedi knight, and not just any knight: many people within the Order considered him to be the Chosen One, responsible for destroying the Sith and restoring balance to the Strength.

Unfortunately, quite the opposite happened. Anakin was warped by the dark side of the Force, becoming the Sith Lord Darth Vader. He even helped kill all the other Jedi, and became Emperor Darth Sidious’ apprentice. A journey that can, in fact, be described as “ unconventional for a Jedi.

Even before Anakin, we can trace the line even further. Anakin was the Padawan of Obiwan, who was himself an outstanding Jedi, particularly important in the unfolding of the events of Star Wars history.

Finally, Obiwan’s master, Qui-Gon Jinn, was known to be a nonconformist Jedi within the Order. Despite having the title of master, Qui-Gon did not hesitate to disobey the rules of the Jedi code, which earned him a reputation as a rebel during his lifetime. He was also the one who managed to unlock, for the first time, the secrets of eternal consciousness after death thanks to the Force – a technique he himself taught to Yoda, and to Obiwan.

Qui-Gon, Obiwan, Anakin, Ahsoka, and now Sabine: the robot Huyang was not wrong in speaking a long line of unconventional Jedi.
