Why does Ahsoka Tano have two white lightsabers?

Ahsoka Tano wields lightsabers with an unusual hue: their blades are white. This color is no coincidence. This reflects the character of the heroine Jedi, but also is the result of her adventures.

How to subscribe to Disney+ to see Ahsoka

Disney+ is available in France:

Orange-colored lightsabers, but also lightsabers whose blade is entirely white. As soon as the first trailers were released, we could see the series Ahsoka move away from the traditional colors that we know in Star Wars. This is no coincidence: in the saga, the color of lightsabers has a symbolic meaning that fans know well.

When a blade is blue or green, it means you’re dealing with a Jedi. He uses the light side of the Force. When it is red, then its owner is a Sith: it belongs to the forces of evil and exploits the dark side of the Force. One big exception in the movies: Mace Windu’s purple lightsaber, played by actor Samuel L. Jackson.

Over time, the development of the extended universe has also resulted in a marked extension of the chromatic range that these weapons can sport. Yellow lightsabers (like Rey), orange lightsabers, but also a black saber. There are also more or less unofficial colors, like those that can be unlocked in Survivor.

We know the explanation of the color of orange lightsabers in Ahsoka. There is also a reason why Ahsoka Tano uses two white-colored lightsabers. She shows up in the anime series where she appears, but maybe you haven’t had a chance to watch them before. It turns out that this color is meant to reflect the independence of the Jedi heroine.

This has not always been the case: originally, Ahsoka Tano used only one lightsaber, the blade of which was green – a sign of her belonging to the Jedi order. Later, the young woman evolved her fighting style, switching to two lightsabers. The blades were first green, then a mix of green and yellow, then blue. Later, it will switch to two white blades.

Why are Ahsoka Tano’s lightsabers white?

These two white blades aim to illustrate the freedom of Ahsoka Tano. This was explained by Dave Filoni, the American director who in a way created the Jedi: he shot the animated film The Clone Wars in which she first appears. He was also the one who framed the animated series The Clone Wars And Rebels in which it is developed.

Her blades are white, as she is not Jedi and she is not evil, to reflect her non-membership “, he said in a video posted on March 3, 2015 on the official YouTube account of the saga These sabers appeared for the first time in the final episode of season one of Rebels, galaxy in flames (Fire Across the Galaxy).

To understand this desire for independence, you have to know the life of Ahsoka Tano. In summary, this non-membership is linked to the false accusations of which she was the object by the Jedi order, which led her to distance herself. This episode was a break for the young woman and it gradually distanced her from the old dogmas that shaped her for years.

The transition to white lightsabers happened naturally: beyond reflecting his character, he especially needed new weapons: his two old sabers had been abandoned. In the final episode of The Clone Warsshe deposits them near a cemetery in which lie the remains of former comrades, soldiers of the army of the republic.

To work, lightsabers need a special crystal, the kyber. Basically, it is colorless: its color is determined when it is “connected” to the Jedi (or the Sith). But in Ahsoka Tano’s case, it turns out that she recovered two previously used kybers: these were used by a dark side-manipulating inquisitor, called the Sixth Brother.

These crystals had already been associated with the character of the Sixth Brother and therefore emitted red light. During her face-off against the inquisitor, Ahsoka Tano, although disarmed, managed to purify the two kybers thanks to the Force. It was once they settled into the saber that the young woman discovered their new state: their color was no longer red, but white.

Since then, Ahsoka Tano has not changed blade color in thirty years (three decades separate Rebels of Ahsoka’s return) it is indeed white lightsabers that appear in The Mandalorian And The Boba Fett Bookwhen the Jedi is embodied for the first time by an actress (Rosario Dawson) on screen.

There is no doubt that we will soon see Ahsoka Tano and her white sabers again. Indeed, it is Dave Filoni who is at the helm of the series in live action. And it is also him who must direct the film which will come to conclude the mandoversethis universe shared between all the series Star Wars taking place at the same time.
