Amazon has just announced the most massive layoff plan in its history.
And the number of departures is enough to make you dizzy, since 18,000 people will be thanked by Jeff Bezos’ company.

A return to normal?
Amazon has experienced tremendous expansion during the pandemic period, as customers around the world have tended to value shopping online over shopping in physical stores. The company’s workforce had thus doubled between 2020 and 2022.
But since then the situation has turned around, both for all digital companies, but also more specifically for online distribution. Amazon has thus seen its stock market valuation halve in 18 months with a return to normal which has prompted consumers to buy less on the web.
During the first nine months of the year, Amazon recorded a net loss of 3 billion dollars, while during the same period the previous year the firm recorded 19 billion dollars in net profit. The group must present its annual results on 1er next February.
