If buying products via the Siri voice assistant is technically entirely possible, it should never be possible.

The process would indeed go against the rules of confidentiality set by Apple.

Apple won’t allow Siri to make purchases

Apple has been offering its voice assistant Siri for more than ten years now. An artificial intelligence technology which was proposed alongside the iPhone 4s (in 2011), and which has since been integrated into the various Apple products, from the iPhone to the iPad, via the iPod.

Obviously, over the months and years, Apple has managed to refine its trusty Siri, which can support the user with many voice requests. However, in 2022, Siri still does not support purchases, and this is completely voluntary on Apple’s part.

A question of confidentiality

Indeed, we learn today that in 2019, Apple had worked on new requests for Siri, which were to make it possible to make purchases on the AppStore, by a simple voice command. However, Apple quickly put an end to this development, for privacy reasons.

Allowing Siri to buy content on the AppStore then required linking the user’s Apple ID to the Siri request, an ID that would end up in the purchase process. What come against confidentiality according to Apple, which requires requests from its voice assistant to remain completely anonymous, without any Apple ID therefore.
