Why is there a dotted line between Egypt and Sudan? Understand in three minutes

The Bir Tawil triangle, a small piece of uninhabited land of 2,000 square kilometres, is one of the last “terra nullius” : a “territory without a master”.

If Egypt and Sudan both consider that Bir Tawil is not part of their territory, it is because of a second triangle located further east: the triangle of Hala’ib. Ten times larger, it has above all a wide coast on the Red Sea, which is of much more interest to the two countries which have claimed this territory for thirty years.

Our explanations in this three-minute video. And if you want to know more about the subject, we refer you to the decryption below.

This video, broadcast for the first time on June 9 on the Snapchat channel from Worldis the third in our “Dotted” series.

The goal: to explain the conflicts and tensions that hide behind the borders that appear dotted on Google Maps. New episodes will be regularly broadcast on the site of the World as well as on our various social networks (instagram, TikTok, Snapchat).
