Why is there a shortage of doctors in France?

Is France becoming a medical desert? The numbers speak for themselves. Nationally, there are only 318 doctors per 100,000 inhabitants (compared to 328 ten years ago). And in terms of their distribution, it is no better: in an attractive territory like the south-east of France, the number of doctors per inhabitant is 1.6 times higher than in the Center region.

Although steps have already been taken to raise the bar by training more general practitioners and specialists, the effect is not immediate. Medical density will continue to decline until 2028. How did we get here? What are the ways to remedy this?
