If the platform offers many artificial intelligence systems to identify videos of a sexual nature or hate speech, the lives broadcast on the service are more difficult to control.
In recent weeks, TikTok has been at the heart of several controversies concerning adult users who used the platform to watch teenagers strip naked for a little money, or even young users threatening to carry out a shooting in establishments schools.
The social network has therefore decided to modify certain parameters of its live video service, in order to better protect the youngest users from certain words or comments made by certain participants.
The creation of live videos will soon be reserved for those over 18
TikTok will therefore tighten the screw by offering a new option that will allow the creation of live videos reserved for adults. These salons will be able to accommodate rude remarks or more sensitive subjects, without the creators worrying about the age of the public watching them. This setting will be rolled out in the coming weeks. The platform will also offer creators the option of blocking certain keywords in live comments in order to avoid abuse and abuse.
TikTok does not, however, seek to compete with OnlyFans, the platform which provides access, against a monthly subscription, to exclusive content, and very often of a sexual nature. The Chinese social network still does not allow the distribution of pornography or nudity.
It will nevertheless go further by authorizing the creation of live videos only to users over 18 from November 23. The youngest will only be able to watch content broadcast live, in order to avoid being the target of malicious spectators. This new setting should logically reduce the number of teenagers on live videos.
Finally, TikTok will soon allow hosts to invite other users to their live via a grid view system, with the aim of limiting the audience for their content.
