why Kate and William won’t attend the same matches together

September is a busy month for the British royal family. The royal couple are expected for their first official visit to France, but will be preceded by William and his wife Kate Middleton, who will attend Rugby World Cup matches.

For the British royal family, autumn promises to be European – and especially French – after the commemoration of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. King Charles III and his wife Camilla are expected between September 20 and 22, for their first official visit to France after its postponement. The royal couple is first expected in the capital, then will end his French visit with an excursion to Bordeaux (Gironde), already prepared by its security services. But France is also expecting two other members of the royal family this weekend of September 9 and 10 : Kate Middleton and William. The Prince and Princess of Wales will indeed be there for the Rugby World Cup, launched this Friday, September 8. However, it will be unlikely to see them together in the stands : in fact, the parents of George, Louis and Charlotte will not attend the same matches. It is in fact their political functions that will separate them during this major sporting event.

According to Paris Match, Kate Middleton will take her place this Saturday, September 9 at the Velodrome stadium in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) to watch the confrontation between England and Argentina. Since February 2022, the princess has sponsored the British Rugby Federation and the national team: roles previously held by her brother-in-law, Prince Harry – who will attend the Invictus Games in Germany. Queen Elizabeth II stripped him of it when he renounced his functions within the royal family. Last June, Kate Middleton herself took to the field, in sports attire, to engage in exercises with a rugby club.

The couple support different teams

Prince William, meanwhile, is in charge of the Welsh rugby team (the Welsh Rugby Union). A title inherited from his grandmother, who preferred to give him the reins in 2021. The eldest son of Charles III will therefore support his team on September 10, who will face Fiji in Bordeaux. Her aunt, Princess Anne, also announced her visit on October 7 to support the Scottish team she sponsors. Enough to perhaps ease tensions, while the Prince and Princess of Wales did not travel to support the Lionesses during the Women’s Football World Cup.
