The Kremlin has asked Russian politicians to give up their iPhones.

No more iPhones in politics
With the extreme sophistication of the means of infiltration and eavesdropping achieved today, the issue of communications security has become a veritable obsession in the world of power people. And this, especially when countries are in almost direct confrontation, as is the case for Russia and the United States.
In this case, it is better to pay attention to the material that one uses. This is what the Russian authorities must have said to themselves. Thus, during a conference organized by the Kremlin, the first deputy director of the presidential administration Sergei Kirienko asked politicians in charge of domestic affairs to abandon their iPhones.
This decision will have to be applied quickly, before 1er April, according to the newspaper Kommersant. It is motivated by possible frailties in Apple phones that can be exploited by Western intelligence services.
Towards alternative devices?
The language is clear. ” The iPhone is over: either we throw it away or we give it to the children “, would have explained one of the participants of the event, according to Kommersant. Asked by Reuters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed Moscow’s mistrust in the field. ” Smartphones should not be used for official business “, he thus explained. He added that there were no differences on this point between devices running Android and those running iOS.
Vladimir Putin himself does not own a smartphone, according to his own words, even if he uses the Internet from time to time, according to his spokesperson. Kommersant explains that politicians to whom the new directive has been communicated could be offered devices benefiting from other operating systems in order to replace their iPhone.
