In catimini, netflix made it more difficult to access its Essential offer on its site, to push new subscribers to a certain other plan…

Newcomers to the streaming platform thus now have three choices of offers: the Premium at 17.99 euros, the Standard at 13.49 euros and (oh surprise), the Essential package with advertising at 5.99. euros per month. For the Essential subscription at 8.99 euros, you have to play a little detective game that Benoît Blanc would not have denied.

We do not attempt to direct our members to one offer or another “, we are told

This more or less subtle change was first spotted by US financial analyst Andrew Freedman. He also raised a certain discrepancy between this maneuver and a statement by Netflix during an investor call for the third quarter of fiscal year 2022, held last October.

He quotes a representative of the platform who said: “ As we have stated in the past, we don’t really try to direct our members to one plan or another. We try to take a pro-consumer approach and kind of let them find the offer that best suits them. “.

Somehow seems to be the right word, since this modification first made to the platform’s official American site then slipped into its German, British and French versions, among many other regions.

An “Essential” change of course?

When it arrived last November, the Essential offer with advertising, offering a reduced catalog and resolution, with five minutes of advertising per hour of viewing, had raised a lot of teeth. However, we recently learned that Netflix was satisfied with the growth recorded by this subscription.

But then why conceal one of these offers to encourage new subscribers to turn, among other things, to its latest formula? From now on, we see a certain gap between the Essential offer with advertising and the Standard. The first is offered at 5.99 euros per month, while the second is displayed with a monthly rate of 13.49 euros.

The Essential formula, priced at 8.99 euros per month, must be found manu militari by looking in the small lines at the bottom of the page for the mention ” Want more options? See all offers “. Less investigative minds will therefore naturally tend to turn to the cheapest formula, instead of agreeing to pay more than 10 euros per month.

Speaking of the investor call, Netflix is expected to hold the one for Q4 2022 tomorrow. We should therefore see if the Essential formula with advertising turns out to be as profitable as the platform claims. And in the opposite case, this more or less subtle modification of the display of offers on its site will really take on its full meaning.

  • The most complete on the market
  • Often excellent original series…
  • Impeccable video compression

The American service is not the most popular in the world for nothing. With an offer of content enriched each week, an always optimal video quality and a very worked user experience, the platform is an essential choice for entertainment. Our only regret remains the constant increase in subscription prices, which makes the service a little less attractive than when it was launched… Fortunately, the number of series and films compensates for this increase.
