why the biggest new feature of the Christmas update is reserved for certain cars only

Tesla’s Christmas update is starting to be deployed en masse, and we therefore find a lot of people very disappointed not to see the biggest new arrival on their car. Here’s why 3D parking with Tesla Vision is not yet offered for all of the brand’s cars, and only for some of the most recent Model 3s and Model Ys.

Over-the-air updates with Tesla are often very controversial. On the one hand because certain regressions are observed, and on the other hand because depending on the cars and configurations, not everyone benefits from the same additions at the same time.

Worse, certain regions can be months or even years ahead of others – we are thinking in particular of the FSD beta which is not leaving North America for the moment -, making Tesla owners envious of another continent. We have detailed the new features of update 2023.44.30 in this article, but one subtlety was deliberately omitted by the brand: not all cars will have the big new feature of the moment.

Easy parking, but not for everyone

When Tesla decided to remove ultrasonic sensors from its vehicles, not many people liked it. Indeed, during the first deliveries, there was no indication or assistance for performing parking maneuvers, whereas on the entire vehicle fleet, these are fairly standard functionalities.

Furthermore, when the brand finally updated its software to attempt to use the cameras for parking assistance purposes, the result was rather unsatisfactory and lacking in precision. This is why the big news of the Christmas 2023 update was eagerly awaited.

If you don’t have the chance to see the release notes displayed above at the time of updating to version 2023.44.30, that’s normal: this means that your car still has the ultrasonic sensors, and that It is currently excluded from this software improvement.

However, the head of Autopilot at Tesla confirmed that this parking assistance would indeed come to vehicles equipped with ultrasonic sensorsthat is to say manufactured before fall 2022. It remains to be seen whether the addition will be made in the coming days, weeks or months…
