Why the Insta360 – Garmin – Apple partnership makes perfect sense

I always have a Garmin watch on one of my wrists when I exercise. And I also regularly use an Insta360 camera to capture video footage of my road and trail runs, and my bike rides. Insta360 has just announced that it will now be possible to overlay statistics recorded by Garmin on video footage from your Insta360 camera.

This integration relies on precise synchronization of Garmin data and your Insta360 video content. This means you’ll need to make sure the clocks on both devices are set to the time zone where you’re exercising, so the Garmin data syncs properly. In the Insta360 smartphone app, simply select your Garmin Connect account and the data syncs in the background.

After tapping Stats in the video preview, various data captured by Garmin Connect can be displayed alongside your video when you export and share it. Stats include GPS track, altitude, heart rate, speed, pace, and more. If you share your data, the statistics provide a more immersive experience for the viewer.

I also plan to use this feature for training sessions, as I will then be able to review my performance with video footage of the surrounding conditions that might have influenced my results. It’s difficult to remember workouts when you only have a standard map view of your data. I also want to check changes in pace, speed and heart rate on my routes.

You may be wondering if you can control your Insta360 camera from your Garmin watch. There is in fact a widget in the Garmin Connect store that works with several Insta360 cameras. The Insta360 Remote widget works with the OneRS camera I use most of the time. The widget has received over 100 reviews, almost all at the five-star level.

After receiving the news from Garmin, I went through the login process and learned that data captured from an Apple Watch is also supported by Insta360 cameras. Additionally, there is a full Insta360 app for the Apple Watch, which allows you to control the camera in its various modes and resolutions.

Overall, it seems like there are compelling reasons to consider the Insta360 as an action cam made for athletes and content creators
