The manufacturer will have to curb the ardor of its last processor mobile on the touch pad for design issues.
After several weeks of waiting and rumor, Apple formalized the launch of the iPad Pro M2 this Tuesday, October 18 via a simple press release.
An identical processor, but a slightly reduced frequency
As we noted during its presentation, the iPad Pro M2 is more of a technical update than a brand new product, with the only major improvement being the addition of an M2 processor.
Apple uses here the same processor already at work on the MacBook Air M2 and MacBook Pro M2, with the promise of the same level of power and performance, in a more mobile and transportable format.
However, if you take a good look at the communication and the figures published by the brand, this SoC M2 should be slightly different, with a small drop in power compared to the MacBooks.
Apple wants to limit the heating, in the absence of fans in its tablet
Apple says the iPad Pro M2 will be 15% more powerful than the iPad Pro M1 released in 2021. Yet when looking at the release accompanying the release of the MacBook M2s, Apple specified that the M2 chip was this time 18% more efficient.
This small drop in performance, of the order of 3% therefore, can simply be explained by the very format of the touch pad. Like all iPads before it, the iPad Pro M2 does not include a ventilation system. Apple probably wanted to avoid overheating, especially in the most resource-intensive professional applications, by slightly reducing the frequency of its chip.
The manufacturer has also experienced some setbacks with the MacBook Air M2, whose excessive heating was pointed out by its first users. Again, Apple has chosen a design without fans, to reduce the weight and thickness of the device.
Graphics performance, on the other hand, is exactly the same, with a 35% increase over the M1 processor.
