The youth channel Gulli, which belongs to the M6 group, is about to be sold. Among its potential buyers, the press group Unique Héritage Média, which notably publishes “Piscou Magazine” and “Epsiloon”. Its managing director Christophe Ruet explains Tuesday in “Culture Media” the reasons for this takeover project.

INTERVIEW

Will Gulli become Piscou TV? The Unique Héritage Média press group, which notably publishes Piscou Magazine and Epsiloon made an offer to buy the youth channel of the M6 group. The latter wishes to part with it in order to move forward with its merger project with the TF1 group. But why is Gulli interested in Unique Héritage Média, and for what project? Its general manager Christophe Ruet advances elements of response Tuesday at the microphone of Philippe Vandel in Culture Media.

“I don’t want to comment on the history of this channel for very long, since the custom is that we don’t comment on current affairs”; warns Christophe Ruet. But the managing director still draws the main lines of his group’s strategy. “It would make sense that, in a group intended to present its content to young people, there is also a television channel dedicated to young people”, he believes.

Few competitors for the takeover

This strategy of a channel solely dedicated to youth will take place in a context where Gulli has been seeking, on the contrary, for several weeks to open the public of its prime time programs from youth only to families, including parents.

Mystery however on the future of the Gulli brand. Does the Unique Hériatge Média group keep the name of the channel, or will it choose the name of one of its licenses? “I’m not going to answer you on that,” explains Christophe Ruet. The press group suddenly seems to be in a good place to acquire Gulli: the candidates for the takeover of the channels put up for sale by F1 and M6 are not as numerous as hoped for by the two television groups.
