why this Chinese manufacturer arriving in Europe deserves our attention

Little known in our region, the Chinese firm Chery plans to arrive in Europe shortly. It wants to flood the market by launching no less than three brands and also plans to build a factory on the Old Continent.

More and more Chinese manufacturers are trying their luck in Europe, sometimes with success. This is for example the case of MG, whose electric compact has even surpassed the Tesla Model 3 in terms of sales on the Old Continent. A story that other brands, like Nio and Xpeng as well as BYD, dream of, which could also be a hit thanks to its very low prices.

Three new brands

Obviously, this makes people dream and encourages other manufacturers to try their luck with us, which Brussels does not view favorably. So much so that measures have been unveiled to counter this offensive, while an investigation has also been opened against the Chinese government. The European Union would even have new proof of the latter’s unfair competition.

But all these political affairs do not prevent brands from continuing their progress here. And now a new one is planning to try its luck in turn. This time it’s Chery, a manufacturer well established in China, but still little known in our region. Which shouldn’t last long.

The firm, which recently lifted the veil on an adorable city car rival to the Dacia Spring, is in turn planning to arrive in Europe in the coming years. This is confirmed by an article published by the British press agency Reuters. The latter explains that Chery plans to launch not one, but well three brands in Europe. A bit like BYD, which will also market its Denza D9 here.

This will also be the case for Nio, which should be present with its Firefly brand in France. But then, what is Chery preparing for us, which could also sell its eQ1 here in the coming years? Well the firm doesn’t want to do things by halves, quite the contrary. She will be present under the Omoda and Jaecoo brands, but not only. And for good reason, a third will also be sold in Europe.

Several models on the program

It will be Exlantix, which displays a slightly more upscale positioning than the previous two and which will also be marketed in the Middle East. Unlike the others, it will only offer electric and non-plug-in hybrid models, while this engine will in any case be banned in Europe from 2035. From 2025, Chery should launch three SUVs from these brandss.

Thus, it hopes to be able to compete head-on with Tesla, whose Model Y is still a hit on the Old Continent and whose Model 3 is making a strong comeback. Although the focus should be on electric, thermal and hybrid versions should also be on the program with other brands, in order to adapt to the needs of different European countries. As will Fiat with its 600, which will also be offered as a hybrid in certain markets.

The first model to arrive here will be the Omoda 5the electric version of which will see the light of day next year for a price around 30,000 euros according to the site Carscoops. Concerning Exlantix, the site’s journalists Clean Automotive evoke a sedan and an SUV, which could be equipped with an 800 volt architecture and autonomous driving thanks to a LiDAR installed on the roof. A huge 70-inch head-up display would also be on the program.

But while the French government wants to remove the ecological bonus for electric cars produced in China, the manufacturer already has an idea in mind: create your own factory with us. It will follow in the footsteps of BYD and MG, but also Avatr, which will market several cars in Europe very soon.
