Why This Powerful Series Won’t Get Season 3

“Big Little Lies” is unquestionably one of HBO’s most successful series. Zoë Kravitz explains today why the show will not have a season 3…

It’s been more than 3 years since season 2 of Big Little Lies, one of HBO’s most popular series, ended. If the public was uncertain about the future of the show, one of its main actresses has just confirmed its official cancellation: no, there will be no 3rd season announces Zoë Kravitz.

Here, the reason is not the lack of audience since the second season – of what was originally to be a mini-series – had been seen more than the first.

As Espinof reports, Zoë Kravitz has made it clear: a new season is not possible after the disappearance of its director Jean-Marc Vallée.

We talked a lot about doing a 3rd season and unfortunately Jean-Marc Vallée, our amazing director, passed away last year, which is heartbreaking, and I can’t imagine continuing without him. He was truly the visionary of the series. So, unfortunately, it’s over. It couldn’t have been clearer.

Jean-Marc Vallée, who also signed films such as Dallas Buyers Club (2013) and Wild, or the Sharp Objects series, had directed the 1st season worn by Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz and Laura Dern . He was also very involved in the second, which was marked by the arrival of Meryl Streep in the series. The director died in December 2021 at the age of 58 following a cardiac arrhythmia from which he suffered.

Throughout its run, Big Little Lies has garnered widespread critical acclaim, particularly for its writing, directing, acting, cinematography and soundtrack. Season 1 has indeed received 16 Emmy Award nominations and won 8 – including an award for the series, for Jean-Marc Vallée and for 3 of its actors: Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgård and Laura Dern. The trio as well as the series also won Golden Globe Awards in the same categories.

The 2 seasons of Big Little Lies can be seen or seen again in streaming on OCS.
