Why Twitter is the new Eldorado of movie piracy

It’s official ! Twitter Blue subscribers have access to a new feature: they will be able to post videos up to two hours long. It was Elon Musk himself who announced this option, which is currently only available via the twitter.com site or on the iOS application. Android subscribers are limited to 10-minute videos, while average users can still post 140-second videos, or 2 minutes and 20 seconds.

Previously, Twitter Blue subscribers could already upload hour-long videos to the social network. This option was then used by some users to broadcast illegally pirated movies on Twitter. At the end of last April, Super Mario Bros, the movie had accumulated more than 9 million views.

Linda Yaccarino, a general manager focused on video

This time the account @coinbilly_ did not hesitate to share the film Shrek 3 and this, directly in comment under the tweet of Elon Musk. Online for a while, the video has been disabled and the account has been locked for copyright infringement. Some users have in turn taken the opportunity to share other films like 1001 Paws.

Twitter took a turn towards more videos with the announcement of the show by Tucker Carlson, recently fired from Fox News, exclusively available on Twitter. The arrival of Linda Yaccarino, the former director of advertising and partnerships of the American media conglomerate NBCUniversal, at the head of Twitter, confirmed this.
