why two Model Ys are present in the list of cars eligible for the bonus

Bad surprise for competing manufacturers, excellent surprise for customers of the American brand: the Tesla Model Y remains eligible for the 2024 ecological bonus. Two versions are eligible for the bonus. Let’s do a check in.

The government made public yesterday the list of vehicles eligible for the ecological bonus version 2024, where quite a few rules change from today, December 15, 2023. The Tesla Model 3 disappears for the moment from the system, but the Tesla Model Y there stay. For the moment, we can summarize this as: Teslas made in China (Model 3) are not entitled to the ecological bonus, while those made in Europe (Model Y) are entitled to it. But it’s a little more complicated than that if you look closer.

Two variants of Tesla Model Y eligible for the 2024 ecological bonus: here are the details

In the long list of cars eligible for the bonus as of December 15, 2023, we find two variants of Tesla Model Y, where the TVV (for Type Variant Version, or box D.2 on the registration certificate) is either 005Y7CRBVb3s5T3X or 005Y7CRPZb3s5T3X . If this doesn’t mean anything to you, that’s normal, this series of characters hides a lot of information that we will decipher together.

The German forum Tesla Fahrer & Freunde frequently makes available the different approved variants of vehicles from Elon Musk’s brand, and we can therefore decode the two TVVs above to know exactly which Tesla Model Y they are. The first 7 characters already tell us that it will be a Tesla Model Y Propulsion, with a structural battery pack manufactured by BYD.

Two different engines

We recently talked about the prowess of this Model Y which charges faster than all the other variants. The difference comes from the following two characters: BV or PZ. According to the homologation documents, BV indicates that the rear motor is the engine developing 220 kW, while PZ indicates that it is the same engine as the Tesla Model Y Performance, developing 235 kW.

As often always with Tesla, we don’t know what to expect when ordering, since there is not the slightest detail on these differences on the online configurator. We imagine that depending on engine stocks and production lines, one or the other variant can be delivered to you, and most customers will not notice any difference in any case despite a slight higher power.

Finally, note that the 4680 format batteries which are planned to eventually arrive on the Tesla Model Y Berlin are still not at the end of their cell. Perhaps this is planned for the future restyled Tesla Model Y which should see the light of day in 2024?
