While it had already been renewed for a season 3, Paramount + has just announced that “Why Women Kill”, an anthology series created by Marc Cherry, was canceled at the end of its second season..

The ax has just fallen… According to information from varietyWhy Women Kill, the anthology series by Marc Cherry, the father of Desperate Housewives, has been canceled by Paramount+ after only two seasons.

This cancellation comes after the series had already been renewed for a third round of episodes in December 2021. According to Deadline, the casting was being negotiated and filming was to start in the coming weeks.

Paramount+ has made the difficult decision not to continue the adventure with season 3 of Why Women Kill“, said a spokesperson for the platform to our colleagues at Variety. “We would like to thank our partners at CBS Studios and Imagine Television Studios, the fantastic creator and showrunner Marc Cherry, as well as the incredible writers, cast and all the rest of the team for these two unforgettable seasons.

For the moment no reason has been invoked to justify this reversal of the situation, but this abrupt decision on the eve of the start of production of this season 3 is extremely surprising, Nicole Clemens, president of Paramount + Original Scripted Series, having praised the great results of why women kill season 2 when season 3 renewal announcement.

She had thus revealed that she ranked “in the top 10 series on Paramount+ in terms of overall engagement and acquisition of new subscribers.”

Launched in 2019, this anthological series followed the fate of several women at different times. The first season, carried by Ginnifer Goodwin, Lucy Liu, Kirby Howell-Baptiste and Alexandra Daddario, portrayed three women living in three different eras and having all lived in the same house, while they had to face the infidelity of their respective husbands.

Season 2, meanwhile, was set in 1949 and told the story of a woman trying to fit into high society at all costs. The cast included Allison Tolman, Lana Parrilla, BK Cannon, Jordane Christie, Matthew Daddario, Veronica Falcón and Nick Frost.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Why Women Kill are available in full on Salto.
