From April 1, the price of certain nights booked on Airbnb will increase by 2%, due to a change in service fees charged by the peer-to-peer rental platform. Find out if you are concerned.

This summer, are you planning to go to Scandinavia, the United States, Asia or, more generally, to a country outside the euro zone? Do you rely on Airbnb to find a place to stay? Don’t wait too long if you want to book at the best price…

From April 1, 2024, the peer-to-peer rental platform will increase by 2% the service fees charged to travelers. But only when it comes to a multi-currency bookingthat is to say when the currency used by the traveler to pay will be different from that defined by the host for his ad, explains Airbnb in an email sent to its customers.

An adjustment intended to take into account the quality of the service offered to travelers, justifies the platform, without further details. We can imagine that this includes covering the company’s costs and foreign exchange risk.

Airbnb: cleaning and service fees, rates… Are rental prices increasing?

Up to 16.5% service fee

Result: for this type of night outside the euro zone, these passenger costs could reach 16.5% of the reservation subtotalcompared to 14.2% for reservations that do not require exchange operations.

This is a maximum, Airbnb points out on its site: Traveler service fees vary depending on different factors and can be higher or lower depending on the reservation. They are lower for stays of more than 28 nights. The reservation subtotal, for the record, includes the price per night and other fees charged by the host, but not guest fees and taxes.
