Would you like to travel, but usually decide very spontaneously? You should rather do without that this year. Because that could otherwise be particularly expensive for you.

Book very early or as late as possible, that used to be the tip to get cheap prices. This year, however, last-minute travel is discouraged, and with good reason. Because according to TUI boss Sebastian Ebel, it could otherwise be expensive for holidaymakers. According to the travel expert, the days of cheap flights are finally over. What that means for travel lovers.

Only a few remnants left

The flight chaos was great after the corona loosening. But in the meantime this situation has improved – but with the resurgent offer, many people seem to feel that there is a lot of catching up to do. According to TUI boss Ebel, the demand is so high that there are only a few remaining beds in the hotels in some holiday resorts in summer – and many flights are already occupied. Due to the situation, Ebel assumes that there will be no “last minute summer” in 2023. Early bookers can therefore look forward to upcoming plans, while late planners may have to rethink.

Higher prices just before departure

“Spontaneous bargains will be the absolute exception,” Ebel told “Bild am Sonntag”. It is more likely that the prices would rise shortly before departure. The most popular holiday destinations in 2023 include Turkey, Greece, Mallorca, Tunisia and Egypt, but also Croatia, Italy, Norway, Sweden and last but not least Germany – said Sven Schikarsky, product manager at Dertour and its sister brands Jahn Reisen, ITS and Meiers Weltreisen. travel reporter”. Those who want to save on expensive flights can therefore best spend their summer vacation at home or in one of the nearby neighboring countries. Depending on where you live, France, Poland or Austria could be good options. Many holiday destinations would then even be easy to reach by train or car. The nice thing is that you can save yourself the hassle of checking in directly at the airport.

Option B: switch to other travel months

Families with children in particular are often dependent on the school holidays or daycare times when planning their holidays. What can help is to take the family vacation together during the autumn holidays, when fewer people are usually out and about. Instead, they can better spend the summer in a nearby place or switch to less consulted destinations. A good option is to go through the airport’s direct flight list and look for places off the mainstream. Singles or couples without children can switch to other months outside of the main holiday season for better prices. That would be the time before July or a trip from mid-September, when the school holidays in the various federal states have already ended.
