Even freshly squeezed, orange juice is not an ally when you want to lose weight. A doctor explains why.

Industrial or homemade, orange juice is not necessarily recommended when you want to lose weight. Indeed, even if it is rich in vitamin C, especially if it is freshly squeezed, orange juice remains a naturally sweet drink which causes a spike in blood sugar and therefore a feeling of cravings between meals.

In a video posted on social networks, Doctor Jimmy Mohamed explains that a simple glass of squeezed orange juice, i.e. three oranges, contains about 25 grams of sugar. A quantity that corresponds to the daily sugar intake recommended by the WHO for an adult, ie 6 teaspoons. In addition, consuming oranges in the form of juice has less impact on satiety and the feeling of satiation because the fruit is deprived of all its fibres. The Doctor advises eating the fruit pure for breakfast instead of squeezing it.

What fruit juice to drink to lose weight?

To avoid causing a spike in blood sugar, it is recommended to drink vegetable juices such as cucumber juice (it only contains 10 calories per 100 ml of juice) or celery juice. You can also opt for juices that combine vegetables and fruits because they are a lower intake of sugars.

The ideal way to lose weight nevertheless remains to consume the fruits in their “purest” form or in compote to retain more fiber. If you want to bring a fruity touch to your drinks, you can also place a few slices of lemon or red fruits in a large carafe of water.
