In the hearts of some manufacturers, it already seems to be a question of swapping WiFi 6 and WiFi 6E with this Wi-Fi 7 which is gradually making a name for itself.
While it is the number one provider of network solutions for laptops, Intel seeks to highlight the performance of its controllers. It is therefore only very logical that he looks into new technologies in this area.
A cumulative bandwidth of 40 Gb/s
Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E have barely had time to become more popular in homes that we are therefore already talking about Wi-Fi 7. The one that is also called 802.11be has already been the subject of demonstrations from specialists in the world of telephony such as MediaTek or Qualcomm.
When Wi-Fi 6E introduced the use of the 6 GHz frequency band – in addition to 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz – Wi-Fi 7 proposes to boost all these little people by focusing on the band bandwidth with a channel length of up to 320 MHz.
OFDMA is of course still on the menu while Wi-Fi 7 stands out for the use of 4096-QAM, but it is therefore indeed the increase in bandwidth that will win over all the votes: it is indeed question of a cumulative bandwidth of 40 Gb / s.
Towards a two-step release at Intel?
Let’s keep in mind that this is a cumulative bandwidth and that, therefore, the 40 Gb/s cannot be used by a single device, but by a whole set of peripherals which will share things . That said, it is not this kind of approximation that bothers communication specialists.
In fact, we understand that Intel is interested in Wi-Fi 7. If it is not first on this technology, the American does not intend to fall behind and by the voice of Eric McLaughlin, his vice- president of wireless solutions, Intel specifies that its first products for laptops will be ready in 2024.
Intel points out that it ” expects to be present in all major markets in 2025 “. Is this a verbal precaution when Intel has had problems with its latest launches or is the release planned in two stages, at the end of 2024 for some countries and 2025 for others?
