Hertha BSC counters the vortex with a late double strike

Hertha BSC in Paderborn is threatened with bankruptcy until deep into the final phase, then the capital club is lucky with two millimeter decisions – and turns the game around completely. Newly promoted Wehen Wiesbaden, on the other hand, receives the next expensive blow in the neck.

SC Paderborn – Hertha BSC 2:3 (1:1)

After the turmoil surrounding Pal Dardai, second division soccer team Hertha BSC has preserved the small remaining chance of a direct return to the Bundesliga. The day after the coach’s memorable departure at the press conference, thanks to a late comeback, the Berliners won 3-2 (1-1) at SC Paderborn and at least temporarily reduced the gap to the relegation place to five points.

Raphael Obermair (16th) and Visar Musliu (60th) gave Paderborn the lead twice. Aymen Barkok (17th) and Bilal Hussein (84th) each provided the answer, while striker Haris Tabakovic (90th) scored shortly before the end for the celebrated victory – and kept the slim hope of promotion through the second success in the alive for the past six games.

Calvin Brackelmann put the first exclamation mark after a strong initial phase for the SCP, his free kick landed on the crossbar (11th). Obermair, on the other hand, aimed a little more accurately and sent the ball delicately into the goal. A little later, however, Barkok was the beneficiary of a major mistake by the Paderborn defense. Shortly after the break, Hertha defender Jonjoe Kenny made a desperate save on the line (47′). But Musliu then headed in from a corner before Hussein and Tabakovic hit back late.

Dardai caused a stir on Thursday when, after being asked, he got up very angry, left the room and did not return. The scandal was preceded by a question from a journalist about the game. Dardai accused the reporter of writing that the club had no concept. Sports director Benjamin Weber confirmed that there was a conversation with Dardai after the incident.

FC Hansa Rostock – SV Wehen Wiesbaden 3:1 (0:0)

Hansa Rostock achieved an important victory in the fight to stay in the league. With the 3-1 (0-0) win in the home game against rivals SV Wehen Wiesbaden, coach Mersad Selimbegovic’s team at least temporarily left the relegation zone and pushed DFB Cup finalist 1. FC Kaiserslautern into 17th place.

After a slow first half on both sides, the game was decided in a few wild minutes. Damian Roßbach scored with a header for Rostock (51′), a few seconds later Wiesbaden’s Bjarke Jacobsen was shown the red card after a serious foul on Nico Neidhart (52′). Kai Pröger (72nd) and Svante Ingelsson (90th + 4) made the decision and gave their team their third win in the last four games. Ivan Prtajin’s goal (78th) wasn’t enough for contractions.

With the win, Rostock climbed to 15th place, past Lautern and Eintracht Braunschweig. The club also exacerbated the SVWW’s situation: Both teams now have 31 points in the race to stay in the league, as do 1. FC Magdeburg and Schalke 04. Both clubs could pull away from Wiesbaden with victories. Newly promoted Wiesbaden lost to the bottom and second-to-last teams in just six days: On Easter Sunday, the Hessians lost 1-0 at home to VfL Osnabrück.
