Wiking-Aft splendid: – Linz rowing girls rock the German Bundesliga

Eight boats from Germany take part in the German rowing league in the women’s eights, plus the “exotics” from Wiking Linz. Who could once again cause a sensation by winning gold at the race day in Minden.

In front of 5000 spectators, the winner of the race day in Minden came from Austria! The women of the Banner Wiking eights once again stole the show from the home German teams. As in the last season, when they were even crowned champions of the German Bundesliga, which calls itself the “strongest sprint league in the world”. In 2016, due to the lack of a league in Austria, this had included the banner Wiking Frauen-Achter 2016. “At the time, the Germans probably hadn’t thought that the whole thing would develop like this. But long, hard work is worth it,” smiles Wiking board member and eighth coach Boris Hultsch. Title defense possible Before the final days of racing in Krefeld and Hamburg in September, the 12 women are in the squad, four of whom come thanks to a cooperation from partner club Regensburg razor-thin behind leaders Berlin and pursuers Mainz. In the end, the women from Linz could even win the league title again! Hultsch: “The Germans still like us, simply because they find our dialect touching.”
