Wildlife keeper – Mossburger keeps pine marten Archie healthy

It often happens that passers-by find wild animals in need of help in the forest or at the roadside. “Apparently healthy animals don’t need any help!” Explains Ruth Salmina. The Moosburger knows her way around the rearing of wild animals. She is currently looking after Archie, a pine marten.

After successfully raising a wounded squirrel around 20 years ago, the animal shelter in Klagenfurt quickly got wind of the 55-year-old Moosburger: “Since Tiko is not allowed to keep wild animals, they usually end up in my care,” says Salmina. She has already released squirrels, dormice, stone marten and also foxes.

Found in the forest
She is currently tending the seven-week-old pine marten Archie. “Pedestrians found him helpless in a wooded area near Klagenfurt,” reports the Moosburger. She is now nursing Archie, a task that requires a lot of strength: “Archie only weighed 90 grams. Before his eyes and ear canals opened, I had to clean and feed him every two hours. “

Keep warm and DO NOT feed
The animals are usually found in the forest or on the roadside. If the animal needs help, Salmina advises: “Keep warm and under no circumstances feed!” Then you should contact the animal shelter or the vet. “
