Will Donald Trump be able to appear on Facebook and Instagram again?
This is THE question that is currently being asked within a working group of Meta, the entity that owns the two social networks.
A working group must give its answer in January
What to do with the thorny Donald Trump dossier? The former president of the United States, banned from social networks since the events on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021, is making a strong comeback in the news. The one who has already announced his candidacy for the presidential election of 2024 will become an essential public figure (again) in the USA.
So how do you deal with your presence on the networks? Twitter has already given its answer, with the return of the account of Joe Biden’s predecessor. Meta, the group of Mark Zuckerberg, has according to the Financial Time established a working group on its side to establish a position.
Comprising members of the public policy and communications department as well as content policy staff, this group will announce Meta’s position during the month of January.
Is Trump sulking Facebook like he snubs Twitter?
Initially, the members of this team were to announce their decision on January 7. A date which was finally postponed, a sign that the discussions are probably complicated.
However, putting the accounts of the 45e President of the United States on Facebook and Instagram would not necessarily mean his return. We can, in fact, see that since his unbanning from Twitter, he has not yet posted a single message on the network, while his account has more than 87 million followers. Donald Trump seems for the moment to favor his creation Truth Social.
But faced with the approach of electoral deadlines, and the need to reach as many people as possible, as quickly as possible, could the politician change his mind, and use competing platforms again? The next few months will tell us, especially if Meta opens the door to him again!
