“Spirited” is basically another adaptation of Charles Dickens’ famous story “A Christmas Carol”. Unlike the other film adaptations, however, the story is told from the perspective of the spirit of the present Christmas. Elaborate dance and singing interludes should also provide a breath of fresh air. Reynolds and Ferrell even get to show off their tap dancing skills. But none of this seems to have particularly convinced the critics so far. “Spirited” is sometimes even panned by the trade press.
And “Spirited” doesn’t make a particularly outstanding figure on the rating platforms either. The film gets a 64 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and only 54 percent on Metacritic. The conclusion at IMDb looks similar. Here “Spirited” only gets 6.3 out of 10 points.
In Germany, Apple TV+ subscribers will soon be able to form their own opinion. Because here – as in the rest of the world – “Spirited” will be available on the streaming platform from November 18th. In the USA, the film has also been shown in selected cinemas since November 11th.
