Will Smith: 3 months after the Oscars slap, a new award for the actor

Three months after receiving an Oscar and having distinguished himself by beating Chris Rock during the ceremony, Will Smith received the BET Award for Best Actor for “The Williams Method”.

Banned from the Academy of Oscars for hitting Chris Rock shortly before receiving the Best Actor trophy for his performance in The Williams Method, following a bad joke from the comedian on stage, Will Smith was again rewarded thanks to the sports drama by Reinaldo Marcus Green.

This Sunday, June 26, Will Smith has indeed received the BET Awards for Best Actor for the role of the father of Serena and Venus Williams. Created by the Black Entertainment Television channel to reward primarily African Americans and other minorities in various fields of entertainment, the awards have been presented since 2001.

And the categories mix cinema and television, since facing Will Smith, absent from the ceremony, were as well named actors from films (Denzel Washington for The Tragedy of Macbeth) as from series (Anthony Anderson for Black-ish, Adrian Holmes and Jabari Banks for Prince of Bel-Air reboot). When they weren’t doing both, like Forest Whitaker nominated for Respect and Godfather of Harlem.

Already winner of a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, a SAG Award, a Critics Choice Award and, of course, an Oscar, Will Smith thus adds an award to the long list of those that his role in The Method Williams will have offered to him.
