The national company is the world leader in its sector, and produces the most advanced products in the world, which are found in particular in iPhones. So, when national pride has energy needs, everything is done to meet it!
TSMC needs a lot of energy
TSMC is currently experiencing a strategic moment in its existence, with the explosion of artificial intelligence, a technology with an extremely high demand for very advanced chips. As a result, the world leader in the sector has seen its energy consumption increase, which necessarily affects the entire island.
To respond to this problem, the Taiwan Parliament says it is open to changing the rules governing the production of nuclear electricity. And all the more so since the island’s next Minister of Economy, JW Kuo, has indicated that he considers this technology to produce clean energy.
Increasing the share of nuclear power in the energy mix, the solution?
Currently, the share of nuclear power in Taiwan’s electricity generation is 6.5%, while the island gets 10.5% of its electricity from renewable energy. Increasing the capacity of Taiwan’s nuclear fleet would be a notable change in the country’s environment, as the previous government had been hesitant on this issue.
The issue of energy is very important for TSMC, which is Taiwan’s largest consumer in this sector. The group’s production units need a constant supply of electricity, any interruption in the power supply could lead to a deterioration in the quality of the semiconductors produced.
