Will there also be room for NFT fashion at the event?

Gucci, Prada, Balenciaga: You won’t find the big luxury brands at the fashion event in the German capital. The Berlin Fashion Week is dedicated in particular to the underground designers of the scene, who shape the fashion trends of tomorrow with innovative designs.

As part of the fashion week from January 15th to 21st, fashion enthusiasts could take part in events that took place throughout the city. In addition to diversity in the fashion world and sustainability in the clothing industry, the area of technology in the fashion industry is not neglected.

For example, important moments and experiences of the Fashion Week in the “Berlin Metaverse” issued. The joint project of several partners offers visitors “immersive possibilities and experiences with digital fashion, marketplace, NFT gallery, fashion shows and a conference area,” according to the official website.

In addition to the documentation of the event in the Metaverse, there was also a Metaverse Fashion Show by “VORN – The Berlin Fashion Hub” on the program. A total of nine designers created a phygital (combination of physical and digital) collection. In addition to the physical garments, visitors could learn more details about the creation of the collection as part of a VR experience.

Are fashion NFTs coming into fashion?

Meanwhile, it’s no secret that virtual fashion isn’t mainstream yet. Lena Nussbaum, founder of the fashion label YES MY LOVE, also explained in a podcast with BTC-ECHO: “As a label, we still have to do pioneering work.” With her label, Nussbaum deals with the digitization of fashion and has already brought a phygital product onto the market. However, Nussbaum denies that fashion NFTs will only be in vogue for a short time: “It’s not a trend or hype, we don’t see it that way. It’s part of Web3 and everyone will have NFTs in the future – or a digital wardrobe for that matter.”

Nevertheless, there are a number of brands that have already launched virtual clothing items. Adidas and Nike are currently fighting for dominance in the Metaverse with their digital sneaker creations, while Dolce & Gabbana launched an entire NFT fashion collection on Polygon.

“I think the complete mass adaptation can still take a little while, I would still speak of a few years,” explains Nussbaum. However, some people could have the first digital garments ready in the next year or two, she estimates.

At conventional fashion events, however, fashion NFTs are often viewed with a certain astonishment, says Nussbaum in the podcast. With this year’s Berlin Fashion Week, however, one should have set an example that virtual fashion is slowly moving in the direction of the mainstream.
