Willem-Alexander and Máxima: They break off their vacation because of strong criticism

King Willem-Alexander and Máxima of the Netherlands wanted to go on vacation in Greece. As a result of the criticism, they now cancel the trip.

The number of corona infections is increasing worldwide – so it's not a good time to travel abroad. Although King Willem-Alexander (53) and his wife Máxima (49) did not violate the current requirements in the Netherlands, the two of them went on vacation – together with their daughters Amalia (16), Alexia (15) and Ariane (13) – for displeasure among the population and in politics.

Via the Rijksvoorlichtingsdienst (RVD), the information service of the government and the royals, they have now announced that they are canceling their vacation because of this. You can see the reactions of the citizens and therefore react. In addition, the company does not want to leave any doubts that all guidelines must be followed in order to get the virus under control. A discussion about the vacation of the royal family does not contribute.

Merkel asks not to travel

The whole of the Netherlands has been a risk area since October 17th – the Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Ministry of Health recently made a corresponding classification.

Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel (66) asked the Germans to leave the house as little as possible. "Everything must be done so that the virus does not spread uncontrollably," she said in a video message on Saturday. "Meet with significantly fewer people, whether outside or at home," appealed the Chancellor. "Refrain from any trip that is not really essential – any celebration that is not really necessary. Please stay at home wherever possible, wherever possible."
