On Christmas Eve, ITV is showing a Christmas special to celebrate the heroes of the corona pandemic. Duchess Kate leads through the gala.

“We want to say a big thank you to all of the great people who have supported their communities. We have had such a grim time. We have faced so many challenges. We have lost loved ones. We have seen our people on the front lines were under enormous pressure “. With these words from Duchess Kate (39) begins a short clip with which she and her husband Prince William (39) on Instagram promote the Christmas gala “Royal Carols: Together at Christmas”.

On December 24, 2021, the British TV station ITV will broadcast the Christmas special at 7.30 p.m. local time. The event from Westminster Abbey in London has already been recorded.

The Duchess moderates the gala. The invitation is for people who have made a difference in the UK during the pandemic: charities and volunteers, teachers, rescue workers and members of the armed forces. The aim is not only to remember the victims of the pandemic, but also to celebrate the positive aspects that were seen during the crisis: helpfulness and the rediscovery of human closeness.

Prominent singers – and singing with the royals

In addition to the “unsung heroes” of the pandemic, who are honored in readings and film recordings, “Royal Carols: Together at Christmas” also features prominent guests. Ellie Goulding (34) and Leona Lewis (36) sing for the guests, among others. And they all sing Christmas carols together, with the guests singing Christmas carols under the direction of the Westminster Abbey Choir. Including William and Kate, of course, as shown by pictures from the recording.
