Did you know that the name chocolate actually comes from the highly civilized Aztecs or why chocolate bananas have a wavy surface? Or that the world’s first milk chocolate was made in Germany? You can find out these and many other facts worth knowing about the “sweetest” temptation in the world in Austria’s first Chocolate Museum in Vienna-Liesing about the history of cocoa and chocolate and the development of their processing. With this, the SchokoMuseum would also like to appeal to school classes and inspire them for the craft of confectionery and praline production. Depending on the type of school, age group or curriculum, certain thematic priorities can be taken into account by prior arrangement. In addition, teaching materials can be made available on request. On average, around 2,500 schoolchildren visit the SchokoMuseum every month. Not only confectionery fresh and straight from the production spoils the palate, but also three chocolate fountains, filled with dark, whole milk and white chocolate. The sweets can be purchased in the shop after the visit. The museum also does not neglect the topic of sustainability and visitors can find out, among other things, what exactly the topic of “fair trade” in cocoa and the quality seal for it is all about or why Heindl relies on photovoltaics, heat recovery and Grander water in production. And a secret about the sweet delicacies of the confectionery is also revealed: where the ingredients for the exquisite pralines come from and how important the term “quality” is at Heindl. So much can be revealed: regionality plays a major role and “organic” is also discussed.
