Emmanuel Macron left New York on Wednesday evening, heading to Saint-Nazaire in Loire-Atlantique for a trip on the theme of renewable energies. The President of the Republic will visit the first French offshore wind farm this Thursday. In the midst of an energy crisis, the Head of State wants to make an impression.
For his trip to Saint-Nazaire, Loire-Atlantique, Emmanuel Macron wants to show that it works, that offshore wind power is possible. The Saint-Nazaire park is the first in France and the Head of State wishes to salute its commissioning. For the image, he will board a boat later to go to the foot of the wind turbines located off Le Croisic.
A bill announced at midday
Above all, he should reveal during a speech at midday the content of the bill on the acceleration of renewable energies. “We have to go faster”, concedes an adviser to the President who notes “that it took ten years for this park to come out of the sea when our European neighbors take on average half as long” for this kind of project.
A message to Putin
New ambitions, new targets on renewables as energy prices soar and Emmanuel Macron’s nuclear strategy in recent years is challenged. But beyond the response to Franco-French criticism, the maneuver of the Head of State, who has just returned from New York, the day after Vladimir Putin’s speech, is also a message addressed to Russia: France works towards its energy independence.
